Principia

The commonly used short version of the title Philosophiae naturalis principia mathematica ("The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy"), by Isaac Newton (1642-1727), published by the Royal Society in 1687. In this comprehensive work of enormous importance, Newton set out his now familiar "laws of motion" and, for the first time, analysed orbital motion in terms of the force of gravitation.
